Nana's Holland Butter Cookies

4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 pound butter, room temperature
2 cups sugar
Sift flour and baking soda together. Set aside. Cream butter until soft. Add sugar and beat well. Add flour mixture a little at a time, beating after each addition. If well beaten, dough can be put through a cookie press, or roll out dough and cut with a round cookie cutter. (Nana used a large juice glass.)
Bake at 350 degrees until edges are slightly brown, about 10 minutes. Makes 2 dozen.
NOTE: Before baking, you may wish to decorate with sprinkles or you may wish to press a walnut in the center as Nana did.
